Irnande Altema
Irnande Altema is the Associate Vice President for Government and Business Affairs at the Maryland Independent Colleges and Universities Association (MICUA). Her role at MICUA aligns with her passion to empower and educate first-generation post-secondary students. She founded FirstGenRise to create a platform for first-generation college students, graduates, and professionals navigating academia and the workplace. Also, Irnande is the author of “The Rise of a First Gen” which journeys the struggles and successes of a first-generation American determined to rise.
Jocelyn I. Collins
Jocelyn I. Collins currently serves as the Associate Director of Legislative Affairs at Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA), leading their federal health finance and appropriations policy advocacy efforts. Prior to that, Jocelyn served as the Delaware, Maryland, and Washington D.C. Government Relations Director at the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN). She has worked for many Maryland political leaders and the Democratic National Committee (DNC) in legislative, communications, and campaign capacities. Jocelyn attained her Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and International Studies from McDaniel College, and is a proud active member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
MaeAnna Hassell
As Chief of Staff to Former State Senator Ulysses Currie, MaeAnna Hassell earned a reputation for exceptional legislative and constituent service and built a statewide network throughout state and local government. She has served as a campaign treasurer and has extensive knowledge and experience with campaign finance ethics and compliance law. MaeAnna is a founding member of the influential young professional organization, “Culture Caucus”, and is an active member of the Greater Washington Community Foundation and the Route 202 Coalition.
Eric Johnston
Eric currently serves as the Director of Federal Affairs at Marriott International, leading their federal policy advocacy efforts. Prior to that, Eric's 11+ year career in Government Affairs included working for Coca-Cola Consolidated and an Annapolis-based multi-client lobbying firm. He is a board member for numerous non-profit organizations and a graduate of Virginia Tech and Hampton University. He is also a proud member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. and an even prouder husband and father.
